DETAILS
In this workshop, participants will work with Suzanne and learn about new and old collage materials, spanning vintage imagery to the ephemera of contemporary life. Collage has a rich history and is used by contemporary artists around the world today. It can be a liberating and adventurous way of working that is full of surprises, guided by intuition and the unconscious. Collage is often associated with the Dada movement (born in Europe during World War I), which is known for disrupting logic and defying aesthetic categories. In this spirit, we will play and experiment with collage and watercolors on paper. The themes for the work will reflect on how participants arrived at their current place and time, and imagining alternate futures. Prompts will be: Stories of Ogden, highlighting real-life personal histories of how they came to or come from Ogden; and Hybrid Futures, focusing on how humans are interconnected with nature by bringing plants, animals, and natural environment of the area into surreal compositions. Both of these prompts explore aspects of belonging in the here and now of Ogden. Elements of participants’ work may be selected to be part of a mobile exhibition featuring art in advertising spaces on city buses around Ogden. All levels are welcome (Ages 12 - 18). Materials are provided, and participants are encouraged to bring their own collage materials to add to the mix. Drop-ins are welcome, but RSVPs are encouraged to ensure your spot! (Ages 12 - 18) FREE & Open to the public. $20 suggested donation.
