DETAILS
Stitch together a beautiful handmade book from start to finish! Join artist Rebecca Pletsch for our final workshop of the year and learn Coptic bookbinding, a traditional method known for its decorative stitching and distinctive open spine. You’ll make your own covers by wrapping pre-cut book board in colorful papers, then organize pages into signatures, punch sewing holes, and bind everything together with colorful linen thread and a decorative Coptic stitch. Colored leather tape woven into the binding adds another decorative touch while helping hold your book together. From cover papers to thread and leather colors, you’ll make creative choices every step of the way. Make your finished book as a heartfelt holiday gift, or keep it for yourself and start 2027 with a journal or sketchbook made by your own hands! About the artist: Rebecca Pletsch received a BFA in Painting from BYU and has exhibited throughout Utah, including at the Springville Museum of Art, Museum of Church History and Art, and Kimball Art Center. She was named a 2026 Utah Artist Fellowship recipient in Visual Arts & Design. Date: Sunday, December 20 Time: 1–3 PM Location: Studio 32 at the Monarch RSVP required. All supplies are provided, and no experience is needed.
